New Prison Complex for 1700 Inmates – Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh

Conceived as a next-generation correctional facility, the New Prison Complex at Chhindwara reimagines the idea of incarceration through humane design, safety, and long-term rehabilitation. Planned for a capacity of 1700 inmates, the architecture prioritizes secure zoning, controlled movement, and layered surveillance, while ensuring dignity, privacy, and access to natural light and open spaces. The master plan creates clear segregation between administrative, custodial and inmate domains—ensuring operational efficiency and zero conflict between circulation routes. A robust security perimeter, watch-tower surveillance, and secure service corridors are seamlessly integrated into the architectural language without compromising on the environmental experience inside the complex.

Beyond security, the campus is designed as a rehabilitative environment aligned with contemporary correctional architecture standards in India. Workshops, skill-training studios, outdoor recreation spaces, and green courtyards are interwoven within each residential cluster to support vocational training, health, and psychological well-being. Climate-responsive planning, optimized daylighting, passive ventilation, and durable low-maintenance material systems ensure long-term sustainability. As a flagship project for the Department of Home, Government of Madhya Pradesh, the Chhindwara Prison sets a forward-looking benchmark in secure, humane and reform-oriented institutional design.
