Headquarter Building for Officers of Uttar Pradesh Prisons Head Quarter at Lucknow.
The Uttar Pradesh Prison Headquarters in Lucknow stands as a contemporary institutional development designed to reflect administrative authority, efficiency, and clarity of function. Conceived as a centralized hub for the Prisons Administration & Reform Services, the project integrates operational functionality with a dignified architectural expression suited to a government headquarters.
Spread across a 5-acre site, the building has been planned with a strong emphasis on spatial organization, ease of movement, and long-term adaptability. The layout ensures clear zoning between administrative offices, meeting spaces, and support functions, enabling smooth workflow while maintaining security and control—key requirements for such a facility.
The architectural language adopts a modern and disciplined vocabulary, characterized by a balanced interplay of solid and void. The use of bold red façade panels contrasted with clean white surfaces creates a strong visual identity, while recessed windows and framed openings introduce depth and rhythm to the elevation. Vertical glazing elements not only enhance natural light penetration but also lend a sense of verticality and institutional prominence.
A defining feature of the design is its emphasis on proportion and symmetry, which reinforces the formal character expected from a state-level administrative building. The central entrance is articulated through a recessed volume and subtle projection, creating a welcoming yet authoritative threshold. Minimal ornamentation ensures that the building remains timeless and maintenance-efficient, aligning with the pragmatic needs of public infrastructure.
Landscape design plays a supporting role in softening the built form and enhancing the user experience. Carefully planned green buffers, tree-lined edges, and foreground planting create a calm and organized campus environment, while also contributing to microclimatic comfort.
Completed in 2017 with a project cost of INR 75 Crores, the Uttar Pradesh Prison Headquarters reflects a thoughtful synthesis of functionality, durability, and architectural clarity—delivering a robust administrative environment that aligns with the evolving needs of governance and institutional infrastructure.
