Atal Convention Centre
The Atal Auditorium at Dr. Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University, Lucknow, stands as an important institutional landmark dedicated to learning, dialogue, cultural exchange, and public engagement. Established by the Viklang Kalyaan Vibhaag, Uttar Pradesh Sarkaar, the auditorium came into existence on 28 November 2011 and has since served as a major venue for academic, governmental, cultural, and ceremonial events.
With a seating capacity of approximately 1,500, the auditorium has been planned as a large-format public assembly space capable of hosting convocations, seminars, conferences, performances, lectures, training programmes, and official gatherings. Its scale allows the university to conduct major events within the campus while supporting the broader vision of creating inclusive, accessible, and dignified educational infrastructure.
Architecturally, the building presents a strong institutional character through its symmetrical massing, prominent entrance portico, tall vertical elements, and warm terracotta-toned exterior palette. The use of domed corner features, deep façade projections, and expansive glazed surfaces gives the building a distinct civic identity while maintaining a sense of openness and approachability.
The auditorium’s setting within a landscaped campus further enhances its presence. Broad lawns, internal roads, pedestrian pathways, planted edges, and formal foreground spaces create a ceremonial arrival experience. The building is visually connected to the larger university environment, making it both a functional venue and a recognizable campus landmark.
Inside, the auditorium is designed to accommodate large audiences with tiered seating, balcony-level viewing, stage-focused planning, and support spaces for organized events. The interior reflects the requirements of a high-capacity institutional auditorium, offering clear sightlines, a generous seating arrangement, and a formal ambience suited for academic and public functions.
Beyond its physical scale, the Atal Auditorium represents the larger purpose of Dr. Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University: to create spaces that support education, participation, accessibility, and social inclusion. As a venue within a university dedicated to empowerment and rehabilitation, the auditorium becomes more than an event hall; it becomes a platform for collective learning, celebration, and institutional identity.
Over the years, the auditorium has continued to contribute to the academic and cultural life of the campus. Its capacity, location, and architectural presence make it one of the key gathering spaces within the university, reinforcing the role of well-designed public buildings in shaping meaningful educational environments.
