The new Campus for the 49th Battalion of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) in Greater Noida is a place to train, work and live. ARCH-EN DESIGN prepared the Architecture and Master Plan. Our aim was a Campus that supports a disciplined daily routine while giving the people who live there green space, comfort and a sense of community.
The site
The 55-acre site lies in the fast-growing area of Greater Noida, close to the Yamuna Expressway, Delhi and the upcoming Noida International Airport. The Master Plan brings training, Housing, administration and support facilities together on one site, within a green and accessible layout, so that the Campus can function largely on its own.
Around the parade ground
The Campus is organised along a central spine. At its heart is a large parade ground with an athletic track, the open space the rest of the Campus looks onto. Training blocks, classrooms and administrative buildings are arranged around it, so daily movement between drill, study and office work is short and clear. The G+2 Administrative Block anchors this core.
Social life gathers in a GO Mess, a multi-purpose hall, a police club and a canteen. Support buildings, including a motor transport workshop, allow the Campus to run without depending on outside services.
Homes among gardens
Housing has its own zones. Type II to Type V quarters provide homes for officers and personnel of all ranks, and high-rise barracks are designed for durability and for comfort in the local climate. Landscaped gardens, playgrounds and community spaces are set among the residential blocks, giving residents places to meet and unwind.
Water, sun and a green edge
Rainwater harvesting, stormwater drains and rooftop solar panels reduce the Campus's impact on its surroundings, and the buildings are designed for Seismic Zone IV. A thick green buffer runs along the edge of the site. It improves the air and creates a milder microclimate, countering the urban heat island effect.
At the centre, the parade ground and its track remain the open heart of the Campus, with homes and gardens gathered around it.
