A station for Deeg, the town of palaces and water gardens in eastern Rajasthan, given a buff sandstone front with a chhatri-crowned tower, jaali parapets and an arcade of cusped arches.
About the project
Deeg is known for the palaces and water gardens built by the Jat rulers of Bharatpur in the eighteenth century.
In March 2023 the Agra Division of North Central Railway appointed ARCH-EN DESIGN as architectural and technical consultant for six of its stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme: Kosi Kalan, Hodal, Bhuteshwar, Govardhan, Deeg and Govindgarh. For each, the work covers the feasibility study, master planning, urban design and engineering, and the technical feasibility report, detailed estimate and BOQ tender schedule for Phase I.
Borrowing from the palaces
The station building takes its cues from the town’s palaces: buff sandstone, a raised central tower crowned with a chhatri, pierced jaali parapets and a deep arcade of cusped arches on slender columns, which shades the entrance.
Along the line
The forecourt is laid out with a circulating road and planted islands. Along the tracks, the plan adds shelters over the platforms, two footbridges, shaded parking and green edges on both sides of the line.
