Seventy-nine residences for Reserve Bank of India officers at Gomti Nagar, Lucknow, set in towers around a central landscaped court that brings daylight, air and views to the homes and gives residents a shared garden.

About the project

The RBI Officers' Residential Complex places 79 residences on a 2.74-acre site at Gomti Nagar, Lucknow. The homes serve different grades of officer, from Grade B and C through Grade D and E and Grade F to the Regional Director, with flats for visiting officers. The towers are positioned around a central landscaped court, to bring in daylight and ventilation, keep homes private and open up views, while giving the residents a shared centre.

Towers around a Court

With ground coverage of about 30 per cent, most of the site stays open for landscape, circulation and recreation. Vehicle movement, pedestrian paths, emergency access and services are fitted into the plan without cutting into the open spaces, and parking is provided on the surface and in double-stack systems.

Beige, grey and rust

The Architecture is contemporary and restrained. Warm beige façades are set against light-grey vertical elements, deep balconies, dark glazing and rust-toned screens. Projecting frames, recessed balconies and vertical cores break up the towers and reduce their apparent scale.

A garden at the centre

Landscape is the social heart of the complex. Central lawns, recreational Courts, shaded paths, seating areas and planted terraces give residents of all ages somewhere to be outdoors. Tree-lined internal roads and planted edges add shade, comfort and privacy.

A clubhouse, community spaces, a crèche, a dispensary and common facilities support daily life, so that much of what residents need is within the complex.
