Housing in Lucknow for ministers, senior bureaucrats and officers of the Uttar Pradesh Government, planned as a self-contained estate where four types of home are arranged by seniority along a one-way route.
About the project
The Estate Department of the Government of Uttar Pradesh wanted a residential enclave of its own for ministers, senior bureaucrats and officers. The brief asked for self-sufficient Housing, with everyday amenities on site.
Four types of home
The Housing is divided into four types, each planned for privacy and easy access. The first homes one meets on entering the site are the 30 Type VI units for the most senior officers. These are duplexes, chosen for privacy and a better quality of living.
The other 150 units sit in four-storey buildings, arranged according to the seniority of their occupants. Stacking them did not mean giving up space: every unit has a terrace or lawn as well as its living rooms.
Traffic is kept simple. The site has one entry and one exit, so vehicles move through it in a single direction, which also helps with security.
