A regional Headquarters for Bank of India in Lucknow, planned as a symmetrical central office block set in shaded, landscaped grounds, with public, staff and service areas kept clearly apart.
About the project
Bank of India's Regional Headquarters in Lucknow is an office of about 13,000 m² for the bank's growing regional operations. Its design rests on symmetry and proportion, and on a plan that a visitor or a member of staff can understand on arrival.
A block at the centre
A central office block stands at the heart of the 20-acre Campus, supported by parking and landscaped grounds. The plan separates public areas, staff areas and services, so that each kind of movement has its own route. Pedestrian paths line up with the entrances, and vehicle routes are laid out to stay safe at busy hours. The main building is placed to make the most of daylight.
Planting for shade
The landscape is there for comfort as much as for appearance. Green areas, walkways and setbacks shade staff and visitors and temper the microclimate around the building. Ramps make the building accessible, and room has been kept on the site for future expansion.
For a visitor arriving from the road, the experience is meant to be simple: a shaded path that runs straight to the front door.
