About the project
The new administrative building for the Patna Municipal Corporation, or Patna Nagar Nigam, gathers its departments, citizen service areas and civic support spaces in one building on a two-acre site. The design aims for a civic building that is open, easy to use and visibly public.
Citizens below, offices above
Public functions are placed where they are easiest to reach, behind a transparent ground floor that welcomes visitors in. The upper levels hold offices, meeting rooms, departmental sections and executive chambers. The plan keeps a clear distinction between citizen service areas and internal administration.
Glass, fins and solid
The building is composed of strong horizontal planes and a balance of solid and glazed surfaces. A central glass volume expresses openness on the main front, while vertical fins and solid side masses give the facade rhythm, depth and proportion.
A canopy over terraces
A large roof canopy crowns the building and gives it a clear silhouette against the sky. The raised horizontal plane helps shade the building and shelters landscaped terraces. Green terraces and planters on the upper levels bring a softer, planted layer to an office building.
