A Headquarters for Bihar's archaeology department in Patna, with exhibition spaces on easily reached levels and offices stacked above, behind a symmetrical facade of vertical elements and jaali.

About the project

Puratatva Bhawan is a new building in Patna for archaeological and heritage work, for the Building Construction Department, Government of Bihar. It brings office space and exhibition areas into one building.

The building is organised vertically. Exhibition areas, reception and visitor amenities sit on the levels the public can reach easily, while administrative offices run across several floors, with open workspaces, cabins, Museum areas and specialised labs. The upper levels hold conference halls, lounges and terrace gardens. Basements take parking and services, leaving an open ground plane for people on foot, set in landscaped surroundings.

Outside, a structured grid of vertical elements and recessed panels is complemented by jaali patterns based on traditional Indian motifs. The composition is symmetrical and carefully proportioned, and the Interiors are planned around natural light.
