A new identity for civic architecture—bold, responsive, and unmistakably institutional.
  • 11 April 2026

The Commissioner of Police Office in Pune is envisioned as a contemporary civic landmark—an institution that reflects authority, transparency, and forward-looking governance. Designed by ARCH-EN DESIGN, the project reinterprets the traditional notion of administrative buildings into a bold, climate-responsive and visually iconic architectural statement.

At its core, the design is driven by a strong architectural identity. The building is conceived as a monolithic yet porous volume, elevated to create a sense of openness at ground level while maintaining institutional security. The façade, defined by a rhythmic perforated grid, acts as both a visual signature and a functional environmental layer—filtering light, reducing heat gain, and creating a dynamic interplay of shadow and depth throughout the day.

A defining feature of the design is the floating roof canopy, which unifies the entire mass and introduces a contemporary silhouette against the skyline. This large overhanging element not only enhances the building’s visual presence but also contributes to passive shading and microclimate control. The central vertical element, marked with the national emblem, establishes a strong axial identity—symbolizing governance, authority, and public trust.

Planning is structured around efficiency and clarity. The building accommodates administrative offices, conference spaces, training facilities, and public interface zones, all organized within a rational and intuitive layout. A central open-to-sky space enhances spatial connectivity and allows natural light to penetrate deep into the building, improving both user comfort and energy performance.

The project also demonstrates a pragmatic approach to execution through its phased development strategy. Existing structures are systematically replaced while ensuring uninterrupted functioning of critical operations. This reflects a deep understanding of working within active institutional environments—balancing design ambition with operational continuity.

Internally, the spaces are designed to reflect professionalism and calm efficiency. Clean lines, warm material palettes, and well-lit environments create a dignified yet comfortable working atmosphere. From high-level administrative chambers to public waiting areas and conference rooms, every space is crafted to support both functionality and experience.

More than just an administrative facility, the project stands as a new-age civic architecture—bold in form, responsive in function, and grounded in purpose.

A contemporary civic landmark for Pune, the Commissioner of Police Office blends bold architectural expression with climate-responsive design—redefining institutional architecture through a perforated façade, floating canopy, and efficient planning.
