As India strides forward on its mission toward self-reliance and sustainable development, NLC India Limited (NLCIL) is leading the charge in Odisha with its ambitious power and infrastructure initiatives. At the heart of this effort is the establishment of a 2,400 MW Supercritical Thermal Power Plant in the Sambalpur district—an engineering and energy milestone that carries an investment of over ₹27,000 crore. This mega-project not only promises to strengthen the country’s power grid but also serves as a cornerstone of Atmanirbhar Bharat, aiming to deliver affordable, reliable, and uninterrupted electricity to millions.
To complement and support this energy infrastructure, NLCIL has proposed a 117-acre integrated township and administrative complex, with a project outlay of ₹600 crore, targeted for completion by 2027. This township will serve as the operational and residential nucleus of the power plant ecosystem, offering a thoughtfully planned, self-sufficient environment for employees and their families.
The township, spanning approximately 100 acres, will include high-quality residential zones, schools, healthcare facilities, community centers, and recreational amenities—ensuring a high standard of living and work-life balance for its inhabitants. The administrative office, a key component of this initiative, will be designed to function as a command center for efficient plant operations, management, and coordination.
Beyond its immediate functional role, the project is expected to bring long-term socio-economic benefits to the Sambalpur region. By generating employment opportunities, improving infrastructure, and stimulating local businesses, the township will play a pivotal role in uplifting the local economy and catalyzing regional development.
This integrated development reflects NLCIL’s holistic vision—one that goes beyond power generation to include urban planning, social welfare, and regional empowerment. As Odisha continues to emerge as a strategic player in India’s energy landscape, projects like this are redefining how infrastructure can create both energy security and community prosperity.
