A residential School on a 12-acre Campus in Ayodhya, where the academic block sits at the centre, residential blocks gather around it, and gardens and covered walkways tie the two together.
About the project
Atal Residential School is a boarding School in Ayodhya, where children study, live, eat and play on one 12-acre Campus. The plan follows that daily rhythm. The Academic Block sits at the centre, the residential blocks surround it, and dining, play and gardens fill the ground between.
An academic core
Classrooms in the Academic Block are planned for natural light and fresh air. Alongside them are innovation labs and Libraries. The administrative complex and the faculty and staff spaces are placed so that teachers are close at hand and students are never far from support and guidance.
Living around the core
The residential blocks wrap around the academic centre, so the walk from dormitory to classroom is short. The dormitories are planned as warm, shared spaces where the routine of a boarding School takes shape. Dining and kitchen blocks are designed for hygiene and for eating together.
Gardens, walkways and play
Playgrounds stretch across the site, and indoor activity centres give room for yoga, music and the arts. Between the buildings, open lawns and flowering gardens soften the Campus. Covered walkways lined with creepers, shaded gazebos and quiet corners for reflection make the walk between buildings part of the School day.
Solar panels and rainwater harvesting are built into the design, and materials were chosen with the environment in mind. The Architecture draws on the cultural character of Ayodhya while meeting the needs of a School today.
ARCH-EN DESIGN has overseen the project as engineer-in-charge and project manager since 2022.
