A new academic and residential hub for NIT Rourkela, with lecture hall complexes, department buildings and faculty homes in brick and stone, planned to connect easily with the existing campus.
About the project
ARCH-EN DESIGN was chosen through a national competition to design two phases of development at the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, as the institute expanded its intake. A pocket of about 50 acres was set aside for a new academic hub, which had to work as one with the existing campus so that students and staff could move easily between old and new.
The plan provides two large lecture hall complexes, the Electrical, Bio-Medical and Mechanical Sciences buildings and about 150 senior faculty residences, built in brick and stone and delivered in parts. Phase I was completed in December 2013 and Phase II, designed for a GRIHA 4-star rating, in October 2019.
