AIIMS Bhopal, PET/CT and Gamma Knife Centres

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhopal, is growing its campus in a second phase. HLL Infra Tech Services (HITES) is the executing agency, and appointed ARCH-EN DESIGN in July 2023 as its architectural and engineering consultant for the master plan, concept designs and detailed project reports of the Phase II facilities: a PET/CT and Gamma Knife facility for the departments of nuclear medicine and neurosurgery, an Apex Paediatric Centre, a multi-storeyed OPD with an auditorium, and a trauma centre, about 1,27,500 m² in all.

The first two buildings to go up are the PET/CT and Gamma Knife blocks, and both are now close to completion.

Nuclear Medicine Centre / PET/CT

A block of lower ground, upper ground and three floors, about 5,060 m², set between an existing hospital block and a new building to come. The lower ground floor holds the PET/CT suite beside space kept for a cyclotron; above it are a hot lab, SPECT-CT rooms, dose administration, separate post-dose waiting and a restricted corridor that keeps radioactive patients apart from everyone else.

Gamma Knife and Nuclear Medicine Centre

A two-level block of about 2,220 m², built against an existing building. The lower ground floor holds the shielded Gamma Knife bunker, an MRI room, an operation theatre and a high dependency unit around a central lobby; the upper ground floor has medical records, stores, offices, a lab and a classroom. Its estimate includes a linear accelerator.
