New buildings and a Campus Master Plan for King George's Medical University in Lucknow, fitting a new OPD block, Hospitals and a cardiovascular and thoracic surgery building into one of India's oldest medical Universities.

About the project

King George's Medical University in Lucknow, once known as Chhatrapati Sahuji Maharaj Medical University, needed to grow. To meet Medical Council of India standards for 250 admissions, its existing facilities were overhauled, and the work included urban redevelopment within the Campus as well as the design of new buildings.

New buildings, old Campus

Alongside a Master Plan for the Campus, the project covered the complete Architectural design and Planning of several buildings:

  • A new outpatient department (OPD) block
  • A teaching block
  • The Centenary Hospital, phases I and II
  • Queen Mary Hospital
  • The cardiovascular and thoracic surgery (CVTS) building

Where patients arrive

The OPD block is the main point of contact for patients, where outpatient consultations and treatment take place, so its Planning shapes how most people first meet the University. The Centenary Hospital serves students, faculty and the wider community, and the CVTS building houses a specialised department for heart and chest surgery.

ARCH-EN DESIGN was appointed in 2007 as Architectural and Engineering consultant to UPRNN, and the work was completed in July 2017. The new buildings are now in use.
