A 100-admission Medical College with a 500-bed teaching Hospital at Siwan, Bihar, with BMSICL as the executing agency.
About the project
The Government Medical College at Siwan brings a 100-admission Medical College and a 500-bed teaching Hospital to a district in north-west Bihar, on a 25-acre site. ARCH-EN DESIGN prepared the detailed project report and the design for BMSICL.
Planned to the norms
The Campus was planned to the norms of the Medical Council of India in force at the time of design, which set out the teaching spaces, Hospital beds, Hostels and residences a 100-admission Medical College must provide. The plan keeps the College and the Hospital close, so that students and teachers move between classroom and ward in minutes, with Hostels and Housing set apart in quieter parts of the site.
Built for earthquakes
North Bihar lies in a zone of high seismic risk, and a Hospital has to keep working after an earthquake, when it is needed most. The Hospital buildings stand on a base isolation system: every column rests on a lead rubber bearing just below the ground floor slab, which separates the building from the movement of the ground and absorbs the energy of an earthquake. A building on isolators is expected to come through a strong earthquake essentially undamaged, so that patients can stay and care can continue.
